About us

CheckImmune is a spin-off company of Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin with strong links to academic state-of-the art research. CheckImmune is providing biomarker studies with focus on novel immunotherapeutics (small molecules, biologics, Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products – ATMPs) and immunological challenges in other medical areas. CheckImmune is accredited according to ISO 17025 and 15189 and fulfills the requirements of GCLP (Good Clinical Laboratory Practice).

We are a team of well recognized experts for biomarker analyses and data interpretation.

With a track record of more than 60 industry-sponsored trials and 60,000 samples we have earned an excellent international reputation.

Our Management

Dr. Andreas Hüser, MBA

Chief Executive Officer
Co-Founder

Andreas Hüser has more than 25 years’ industry experience in the discovery and development of novel drugs. He has led teams working on numerous drug development projects for the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.

Andreas worked as a Scientist in biotech industry before joining the contract research business in 2003 and holds a PhD in molecular biology and a diploma degree in biotechnology as well as a MBA in Entrepreneurial Management.

Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Dieter Volk

Chief Scientific Officer
Co-Founder

Hans-Dieter Volk, MD/PhD, is Clinical Immunologist by training and was chairmen of the Institute of Medical Immunology at Charité University Medicine Berlin, one of the biggest university hospitals of Europe, from 1994 to 2021. He was also founding director of the BIH- Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) and director of the immune diagnostic lab at Labor Berlin Charite Vivantis GmbH. His team developed several immune biomarkers test commercially available now by diagnostic industry. The development of biomarker assays to monitor therapy response to novel innovative drugs of different categories (small molecules, biologics, cell and gene therapeutics) is one of his main research topics for decades.

PD Dr. Gerald Grütz

VP Head of Laboratory
Co-Founder

Gerald Grütz has more than 30 years of experience in Immunology and Molecular Cell Biology in basic academic and contracted research. He heads the DAkkS-accreditated Biomarker Lab since 10 years supporting investigator driven as much as sponsor driven clinical studies. He is familiar with Flow Cytometry and has a deep knowledge in biochemical methods to detect anti-drug antibodies and soluble mediators. In addition, he has gained knowledge to implement a LIMS to reflect the highly specific workflows in our Laboratory.

Gerald has worked before as a group leader in academia with a focus on molecular cytokine regulation and is lecturer for Immunology. He holds a habilitation (PD) in Immunology and PhD and Diploma in molecular biology and biochemistry.

Dr. Kerstin Jülke

VP Research & Development
Co-Founder

Kerstin Jülke has more than 20 years of experience in immunology and cell biology and more than five years of experience in developing new biomarker programs in preclinical and clinical studies. She has broad knowledge in flow cytometry and functional assays and has led numerous projects investigating developmental, mechanistical, efficacy, and safety aspects in both basic immunology and clinical research.

Kerstin worked as a research associate in academia before moving into contract research in 2017. She has a PhD in immunology and a diploma in biochemistry.

Dr. Levent Akyüz

VP Project Development
Co-Founder

Levent Akyüz brings 15 years of experience in immunology and has 10 years of experience in leading biomarker projects for clinical trials. Levent´s expertise in immunological techniques such as flow cytometry proved highly valuable in the assay design and assay validation for biomarker assay used in clinical trials.

Levent has studied biology at the Freie University in Berlin and at the NIH in Maryland and has a Ph.D. in Immunology.

Dr. Su-Jin Park

VP Quality Management
Co-Founder

Su-Jin Park leads the quality management department at CheckImmune.
